Burton Designs began out of necessity, not a business plan.

It began with learning to weld in order to carry out practical repairs, initially to a small lockup used for storing motorbikes. What started as a functional skill quickly developed into a broader design-led approach to problem solving.
The turning point came when a front gate latch failed. Instead of repairing the existing component, the decision was made to redesign the gate entirely. Working alongside my partner, I designed and fabricated a fully bespoke, made-to-order gate constructed from 100% recycled steel, incorporating reclaimed horseshoes formed into the family initials.
From there, welding turned into building. Small projects became functional pieces.
Before long, this progressed from repairing exhaust systems to fabricating complete exhausts, followed by taking on more technical work such as aluminium ladder repairs and working with other metals that are traditionally difficult to weld. Expanding into these areas provided greater control over materials and processes, and began shaping what would become the company today.
The turning point came with a large off-road vehicle project that required extensive fabrication and structural welding. That build pushed my skills, forced consistency, and made it clear this wasn’t just a hobby anymore…
Burton Designs exists because of that progression. Learning by doing, fixing real world problems and building things properly. Every piece we make carries that same mindset: practical, Built with intent , and made to last.
